Due to the shortage of land, the Leslie County Board of Education was faced with the lack of a suitable site for a new Middle School.  Therefore, we were asked to build the new Middle School on the same site as the existing High School and Vocational School.  Our feasibility study determined that the existing high school closely mirrored the state’s requirements for a new middle school.  In addition, it was determined that the existing high school was inadequate for the students’ instructional needs.

Our proposed solution was to construct   a new 1,000-student high school over the existing school, renovate and convert the existing high school into a 500-student middle school, and construct a new media center, cafeteria and vocational program spaces to be shared by both schools.  Our coordination of construction activities allowed school to remain in session throughout the construction and renovation.  Over a two-year period, there were no school closings related to construction.
