Madison Southern High School is now a landmark to the residents of Berea, KY. Rather than tear down the building and start new, Clotfelter/Samokar developed a master plan of phased additions and major renovations, while retaining the original structure built in 1980. MSHS nearly doubled in size and the rest of the school was renovated - essentially providing them with a new facility. The design joined the existing separate buildings into one facility, providing access throughout.

Phase I added a 400-seat Performing Arts Center.  Accompanying the Center are dressing rooms, scenery shop, green room, and a new lobby connecting two separate portions of the school.  Other new spaces include a 200-seat lecture hall, a ROTC suite, classrooms, music classroom and several other learning areas.

Phase II included the addition of a new kitchen and cafeteria, science classrooms and labs, a business and marketing classroom, computer labs and consumer science classrooms and labs. A majority of the school was also renovated in this phase, including all mechanical, electrical, security and technology systems. The existing gym, lobby, girls and boys locker rooms were also renovated in this phase.
